Tell Congress to protect state welfare laws for farmed animals

Send your message

One year ago, the Supreme Court upheld states' rights to implement welfare requirements for animal products sold within the state. Since then, the National Pork Producers Council and their pro-industry members in Congress are retaliating by trying to BAN this right at the federal level.

The Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act and similar proposals in Congress have threatened to WIPE OUT existing state laws requiring welfare standards for meat and eggs sales and prohibit states from implementing future ethical procurement regulations. These bills are a direct attempt to eviscerate citizen power and commandeer states' rights to protect welfare and public health.

Now, several leaders in Congress have added a provision that would ban states from enacting animal welfare sales standards into the Farm Bill, a large, must-pass legislative package.

If we don't fight back, the factory farming industry could circumvent years of policy progress, shut out higher welfare farmers, and disincentivize businesses from switching to cage-free practices. We need all hands on deck to tell Congress that farmed animal welfare laws are here to stay.

Tell your members of Congress to protect Proposition 12 by opposing the EATS Act and other threats to state laws NOW.
