You do your best to buy safe food for your family by reading every label, shopping smart, and trying to make healthy choices. But what if the real danger isn’t listed anywhere?
Right now, most pigs raised for bacon, pork chops, and sausage in the U.S. are given growth-promoting drugs and antibiotics that:
- Are banned in over 160 countries because of links to heart damage, respiratory issues, and nerve damage in humans and animals.
- Are known to be genotoxic, tumor-inducing carcinogens in animals and are 98% likely to cause cancer in humans.
- Leave toxic, cancer-causing residues in meat products sold in American stores.
Federal loopholes allow dangerous cancer-causing and heart-damaging drugs banned in other countries to end up in the meat on our grocery shelves. Now, Big Ag proponents in Congress want to take away our right to stop it.
The National Pork Producers Council, the same lobbying group that opposed calls to ban these drugs, has now proposed the deceitfully named “Save Our Bacon” Act, which would block states and cities from passing laws to ban or label foods made with these risky drugs.
That means less transparency, fewer protections, and more toxic products on our family tables.
